The African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA) in collaboration with the University of Nairobi (UoN) has secured the Mellon Foundation Research Grant to support full-time, three (3) PhD students and two (2) Post-doc students.

Eligibility for PhD applicants

  • Be a registered PhD Candidate in the University of Nairobi
  • Are a PhD candidate pursuing Humanities, Social Sciences and Arts

Note: PhD applicants research focus should be on any aspect of the theme: Mobility and Sociality in Africa’s Emerging Urban (or Mobility and Migration). The research area of study is therefore restricted to the City of Nairobi and its peri-urban areas.Preference will be given to those who have completed coursework and examinations and are ready to start working on their research topic than those who are still working on their coursework.

Information for post-doc applicants

Successful post-doc candidates will:

  • have one year each to complete their research without extension
  • have the option to carry out their research work in any of the following universities; University of Nairobi, University of Witwatersrand (SA), University of Cape-town (SA), University of Ghana and University of Zimbabwe
