This follows a 2015 Biosecurity Survey in Kenya that documented significant deposits of dangerous biological agents in Kenya. The report also revealed a lack of capacity to ensure proper storage and handling of hazardous biological agents and limited biosecurity awareness amongst professionals.

University of Nairobi is one of 8 satellite universities identified to participate in the Biosecurity Awareness Building Programme which will entail among other activities raising awareness and Training of Trainers on biosecurity.

First training is scheduled for mid this year.
