Research Cafe panelists

Yesterday during the Innovation Week 2017, a special forum took place, ‘Innovation Research Symposium’. The session kicked off at 9:00 a.m. with opening remarks from IBM Research.

A key highlight of the Symposium was the Research Café held in the afternoon. The event provided an opportunity for the participants to engage with panelists over a cup of tea on the topic “The research cycle: from conceptualization to utilization”.

Panelists included Prof. Lucy W. Irungu, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research Production and Extension; Prof. Naftali Mollel, Director, Rural Development and Innovation Hub, University of Limpopo; Prof. Alfred Agwanda, Population Studies and Research Institute, UoN; Dr. Samuel Owuor, Department of Geography, UoN; Dr. John Ayisi, Ministry of Education Science and Technology and Dr. Boniface K’oyugi, Population Studies and Research Institute, UoN.

During the conversation, important note for researchers to remember is that ‘what is not communicated, does not exist’. In addition, a question to ask yourself as a researcher is, ‘what value chain is your research creating or going to create’?

The afternoon also presented another event ‘Innovation Research Marketplace’. This provided an opportunity for researchers and innovators to give a practical demonstration of an innovation using a poster or exhibit.
