APPLICATION FOR DEMOCRATIC GOVERNANCE INSTITUTE GRANTS

The Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa invites applications for its democratic governance institute grants. These allow PhD students and early-career researchers to attend the next democratic governance institute on the topic of the African state and public cyber-security service, to be held from 31 October to 11 November 2016 in Dakar, Senegal.

The overall objective of the session is to anticipate on the construction of an African vision of public cyber-security service with a view to strengthening state integrity and sovereignty in Africa.

Topics to be covered include:

•public policies for sovereign public cyber-security service;

•ethical issues and cyber-security culture;

•models of digital administration and e-governance;

•compliance and legal surveillance of cyber-security;

•public service and usages in matters of cyber-security.

African PhD candidates or scholars in their early career with a proven capacity to conduct research on the theme of the institute may apply. Intellectuals active in the policy process or social movements and civil society organisations are encouraged to apply.
